What is the seating capacity at the Michael J Fox Theatre?
We are a proscenium style theatre with 613 seats.
Are seats assigned?
Each event has different seating requirements. Please inquire with event organizers.
Which seats are the best?
All the seats in the Michael J Fox Theatre provide high-quality audio and amazing sightlines of the stage. Patrons typically prefer seats in the lower and upper centre houses.
Which entrance to the auditorium do I use and is there a balcony?
There is only one entrance which is located in the lower lobby as there is no balcony seating at the Michael J Fox Theatre.
When do doors open before a show?
Doors to the auditorium typically open 30 minutes before curtain, and the outside lobby doors open 1 hour before an event begins but may vary.
Are booster seats available?
There are a limited number of Booster Seats available. These seats will be offered on a first come first served basis and will require a deposit of $20 cash or a piece of government issued ID (ex. BC Drivers’ License). Please ask our Front of House staff for assistance. You can return the booster seat to any Front of House staff after the event in exchange for your deposit.
Can I still enter the Theatre if I am late?
Late arrival entry and seating is at the discretion of the Front of House staff.
Are in-and-out priviledges permitted?
To minimize the distraction for our patrons and the performers, re-entry to the Theatre is at the discretion of the Front of House staff. Ticket stubs and/or hand stamps will need to be presented.
Why can’t I sit or stand in the aisles?
Due to local fire regulations, safety and as a courtesy to other patrons, aisles and seating walkways must be kept clear at all times.
Can I purchase tickets at a box office?
The Theatre does not offer box office services. Organizers of each event are responsible for selling their own tickets. Same day sales may be available, at the discretion of the event organizer.
Does my child need a ticket?
Our general policy states that everyone over the age of 2 requires a ticket. Children under the age of 2 are admitted free provided they sit on the lap of an accompanying adult and do not occupy a seat. A ticket will need to be purchased if there is a preference for that child have their own seat. Note: Some events may have different age requirements. Please contact event organizers or ticket organizer for more information.
Where are the washrooms located?
The Women’s washroom is located to the left and the Men’s washroom is located to the right when facing the Theatre doors in the lobby.
Do you have a baby change station?
The Baby Change Station is located in the south hallway. Please ask our Front of House staff for assistance.
Is there a concession service?
The Theatre is pleased to provide in-house concession services for pre-show and intermissions at public events. The service includes hot and cold drinks, an assortment of packaged sweets and savory snacks, and fresh baked goods. Credit, debit and cash are accepted. Partial proceeds go towards the Michael J Fox Theatre Visual & Performing Arts Scholarship.
Can I bring my own food of drink?
Outside food and beverages are not allowed into the Theatre. Only items from concession are permitted, with some of those not allowed into the auditorium.
Is alcohol available for sale or permitted?
As the Theatre is connected to Burnaby South Secondary School, alcohol is strictly forbidden on school property.
What are some general theatre etiquette tips?
Here are some helpful theatre etiquette tips:
- Please try to arrive at least 20 minutes before showtime. This allows adequate time to park your vehicle, enter the building, purchase items from concessions, and use the washroom.
- Respect the shared space. Refrain from placing feet up on the back of chairs and on railings, talking (even whispering) or any activity that disrupts the performance and theatre-going experience.
- Turn off all electronic devices, including cell phones, for the entire duration of the performance.
- Please throw away your trash in the bins provided.
Is photography or any recording of the event permitted?
For most events, photography, video or audio recording of any kind is not permitted however, we invite you to take photos and/or videos pre-show, at intermission, and post-show. Note: Some events may have different requirements. Please look for signage in the lobby, listen to announcements, or ask our Front of House staff for clarification.
Is public Wi-Fi available?
Free Telus Wi-Fi is available.
What does ‘Scent Free Smoke Free’ mean?
Many of our colleagues and patrons have breathing issues or allergies. Please do not wear any scented products. As the Theatre is connected to Burnaby South Secondary School, please do not smoke or vape on and around school property and do not spray perfumes, colognes, or hairsprays into the air inside the building.
Is there a lost and found?
We offer courtesy lost and found service. We are not responsible for items left in the Theatre. Contact us to inquire and please include a detailed description of the lost item.
Note: Any items that may present a health or hygiene concern such as food/water containers, earbuds and anything soiled or smelly will not be held. Unclaimed items will be stored for six months. After six months, items will be donated to charity.
