The Michael J Fox Theatre is one of the busiest professional, community-style theatre in the Lower Mainland. We are looking for a Front of House Manager will be responsible for the smooth operation of the lobby and auditorium during the run of the event. The Front of House Manager welcomes patrons and oversees their safety and well-being before, during and immediately after the event. They lead front of house team of ushers ensuring a positive experience for our patrons. Someone who is flexible, adaptable, cooperative and supportive to any situation is key in this position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead and supervise the front of house team, communicate effectively to ensure the smooth running of performances and events with a motivated team of ushers.
  • Act as an ambassador of the Michael J Fox Theatre and ensure FOH staff maintain and deliver a high standard of friendly and welcoming appearance, professionalism, and excellent customer service to all visitors.
  • Liaise with Theatre Technicians and/or Client, Producers, or Stage Management to coordinate seating and performance cues at curtain and intermission.
  • Ensure the safety of Theatre staff and patrons while inside the building or on Theatre grounds; Have a thorough knowledge of fire regulations, safety regulations, and make all staff aware of these regulations and operate all front of house functions abiding by these regulations.
  • Prepare daily reports: event reports, employee performance reports, and ticket stub count.
  • Deal with all matters raised by patrons and members of the general public attending an event or visiting the building when necessary.
  • Perform other work-related duties as needed or requested.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be legal to work in Canada.
  • Available to work flexible hours and must be available weekends and evenings. This position will have mainly weekend and evening hours but some daytime availability is an asset.
  • Supervisory experience in a theatre, customer service, or similar environment is considered an asset but is not a requirement.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, very busy environment along with various lighting and noise levels that may be moderate to high at times.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods of time. Position will require frequent standing, walking, bending/kneeling, lifting and carrying.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Second language is an asset.
  • Ability to problem solve, think on your feet, exercise initiative, and take personal responsibility.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities working effectively under pressure and the flexibility to adapt quickly to changes and demands.
  • Interest in the arts and an enthusiasm for working in a socially engaged and culturally diverse environment.
  • This is a casual, part-time paid position. The number and length of shifts vary based upon the event and rental schedules and needs.

The Michael J Fox Theatre is seeking courteous and positive ushers who are available as needed or when needed basis (hours vary depending on operational needs) in a variety of shifts including late afternoons and evenings, and as well as weekends and holidays.  This role is prefect for students and retirees with flexible schedules.

Opened in 1993, this professional, community-style theatre serving the Metro Vancouver area offers a beautiful, practical and affordable venue for amateur and professional artists. The Theatre plays an important role in the life of the Burnaby Community through its steady schedule of performances, dance, theatre, music, and other community and school events. It is considered as one of the busiest venues in the Lower Mainland.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Acting as an ambassador of the Michael J Fox Theatre and making a great first and last impression with every client, patron and visitor the Theatre.
  • Greeting patrons and visitors in a clear and polite manner.
  • Checking and tearing tickets and escorting patrons to their assigned seating.
  • Regulating flow of patrons and guests in and out of the theatre.
  • Responding to patron and guest inquiries regarding events and amenities.
  • Monitoring auditorium and lobby to ensure Theatre policies and etiquette are enforced.
  • Watching for safety or security issues (trip hazards, lighting, suspicious persons, etc.) and reporting to management.
  • Exhibiting the ability to engage with multiple patrons and guests, prioritizing interactions and providing outstanding service.
  • Maintaining order and preventing panic in a crisis.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be 15 years of age or older and legal to work in Canada.
  • Must be available to work a variable schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and shifts from morning through late night with regular and consistent attendance. Preferably 3 to 4 days a week. 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to surroundings and work collaboratively in a fast-paced and team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patrons of all ages, genders, and personalities, fellow Front of House team members, and management, to provide exceptional guest service.
  • Ability to work with noise levels that may be moderate to high at times.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Position will require frequent standing, bending/kneeling, lifting and carrying.
  • Ability to effectively and regularly converse in, and comprehend in English. Second language is an asset.

They provide prompt and accurate food and beverage service in order to exceed guest expectations. The role includes front-counter serving and clean-up within the concession.

The Theatre plays an important role in the life of the Burnaby Community through its steady schedule of performances, dance, theatre, music, and other community and school events.   • Providing outstanding customer service and exhibiting the ability to engage with multiple patrons and guests, and prioritizing interactions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Responding to patron and guest in inquiries regarding product information, pricing, and other concession and facility related questions.
  • Handling cash and card payments, gathering orders, and serving to patrons.
  • Balancing and accounting for cash and credit card receipts from sales transactions.
  • Preparing and stocking concession and conducting inventory on a daily basis with accuracy
  • Maintaining cleanliness to ensure a clean work environment and upholding food safety policies and practices.
  • Watching for safety or security issues (trip hazards, hot surfaces, suspicious persons, etc.) and reporting to management.
  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned by management.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be legal to work in Canada and be available to work a variable schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and shifts from morning through late night with regular and consistent attendance. Preferably 3 to 4 days a week. 
  • Must have cash handling experience and possess strong mental math skills.
  • Possess basic food safe knowledge and understanding. Food Safe Level 1 would be an asset but not required.
  • Must have attention to detail and be able to perform cleaning duties consistently.
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt quickly to changes, have good time management skills, and work in a fast-paced and independently and/or in a team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patrons of all ages, genders, and personalities, fellow Front of House team members, and management, to provide exceptional guest service.
  • Ability to effectively and regularly converse in and comprehend in English. Second language is an asset.
  • Position will require constant walking, frequent standing, bending/kneeling, lifting and carrying from occasional to extended periods of time.
  • Experience working in a food handling capacity is an asset but not required.
